Sudan House
Proposed home for SADCO
October 10, 2004
I took the liberty to give a name to the unborn reality. I think a got excited with the fact that the idea of having a home for the SADCO is becoming on the top of your priorities,
As a member of SADCO and your external auditor, please allow me to make the following suggestions: I'll use the abbreviation, “SH” instead of “Sudan House”.
Location
Where we want SH to be located? I suggested several considerations:
1-What state and county/city gives most advantageous privileges to non-profit organization to own a property for its activities.
2- SADCO community members demographics
3- Cost
4- Other: lot size, parking spaces, build or buy and renovate, etc…
Financing alternatives
Cash
Conventional financing
Management
SH shall be considered a separate program. This program shall have, “ Manual of Operation and Management” to regulate its management and activities within the constitution of SADCO.
SH as a separate program must have a separate, “ BUDGET” and a separate bank account within SADCO's financial system. The BUDGET and other financial matters shall be regulated by the suggested, “ Manual of Operation and Management.
The management of the SH shall be assigned to a committee headed in a rotation basis. Member shall be selected by direct communication with the SADCO active-full members. The head of the committee shall be assigned to the committee members on a rotation basis. The function, responsibilities and duties of each member of the committee and the head's position of the committee should be defined within the, “ Manual of Operation and Management”. It's important to set criteria for selection of committee member. These criteria shall consider among other things, education level, proper command of English language written and spoken, acceptable level of understanding of live in the USA , ETC…
The Manual of Operation and Management shall cover all aspects of management, activities, committee membership, meetings, budgeting, etc…I suggest that this manual shall be prepared and approved before starting looking for a house seriously.
At the end I suggest formation of a committee to look into the details of owning a house.
I apologize for not being able to attend the meeting, but I'm always there for the cause of building a strong Sudanese Community in the USA . I prefer communication via e-mail.
